Houses in Multiple Occupancy (HMO) licences - 21/06/2006

As part of the Housing Act 2004, regulations have come into force which require all landlords who have houses in multiple occupancy (as definded under the Housing Act 2004) to obtain a licence from their Local Authority which will grant the use of the property as a HMO. These licences have come into force primarily to tackle issues with poor fire safety standards, overcrowding, inadequate facilities and poor or unscrupulous management. If you are a landlord and believe that you may be affected by the new regulations and need some advice, please contact us on 0113 2978787. The new laws came into force on 6th April 2006 and landlords only have until 6th July 2006 to comply with these new regulations.
