Chain Matrix to be trialled by Land Registry in Autumn 2006 - 01/03/2006

The Land Registry is set to trial a prototype of the chain matrix service in Portsmouth, Fareham and Bristol for 6 months commencing Autumn 2006. The chain matrix has been designed to provide an 'at a glance' progress update to solicitors and licensed conveyancers so that a chain can be co-ordinated and managed more effectively. Once a solicitor within the chain has completed all of the legal formalities on a sale or purchase, the chain is updated to reflect this indicating that their area of the chain is ready to discuss completion. The main purpose of the trial is to test the usability of the service, to ensure that it is "bug-free" and to begin to assess the impact of e-conveyancing services on both the Land Registry and its users. The Land Registry suggests that it is probable that the current matrix will undergo considerable transformation once the trial period ends as a result of feedback from users.
